CONDITIONAL SENTENCE

CONDITIONAL SENTENCE
is a sentence used to describe something that has not happened or not happened in the past, and is used to express the presupposition that the assertion did not occur as expected.
Some things to keep in mind in the conditional phrase:
·           The conditional sentence consists of two parts, namely the parent clause (main clause) and the clause (sub clause in the form if clause).
·           The structure of the conditional sentence can be changed.
·           When the sentence parent is in front, it is not necessary to use a comma separator (,) between the parent and the sentence.
·           When the position of the clause is in the front, then the comma (,) is used to separate the parent and clause.

Conditional Sentence Type 1
If         : If+ subject + V1 + O (Simple Present Tense)
Fact     : subject + will + V1 + O (Simple Future Tense)

Example:
1.         If I've much money, I'll buy that island
Faktanya: I don't have much money, so I won't buy that island
2.         If I can play guitar, I'll show it to you
Faktanya: I can't play, so I won't show it
3.         I will help you if you wish
Faktanya: you don't wish, so I won't help you
4.         If you ride your motorcycle very fast on Pantura, you'll soon be in a hospital
Faktanya: you ride your motorcycle carefully, so you won't be in a hospital
5.         If you cry, I won't buy meat balls for you
Faktanya: you don't cry, so I'll buy meat balls for you
6.         She will come if you invite her
Faktanya: you don't invite her, so she won't come
7.         If I'm an artist, will you become my girlfriend?
Faktanya: I ain't an artist, so you'll reject me
8.         They will arrive at 5 pm if their flight isn't delayed
Faktanya: Their flight is delayed, so they will arrive late
9.         Surono won't be happy if her wife goes to Taiwan
Faktanya: her wife doesn't go to Taiwan, so Surono will be happy
10.       If you're a flower, I'll be the bittle
Faktanya: you aren't a flower, so I won't be the beetle

Note:
The sentence of type 1 assumption is used to assume something that has not happened at the present time and is likely to happen in the near future. This kind of sentence explains to express a pattern of cause and effect.

Conditional Sentence Type 2
If         : If + subject + V2 + O (past future tense)
Fact     : subject + would + V1 + O (Simple Future Tense)

Example:
1.         I would lend you my laptop if you needed
Faktanya: you didn't need, so I didn't lend you
2.         They would come to Robert's house if he 'were' at his house
Faktanya: Robert wasn't at his house, so they didn't come
3.         He wouldn't be angry if you appreciated what he did
Faktanya: you didn't appreciate what he did, so he was angry
4.         Would he laugh if he 'were' happy?
Faktanya: he wasn't happy, so he didn't laugh
5.         My grand fa would hear what you said if you spoke loudly
Faktanya: you didn't speak loudly, so my grand fa didn't hear
6.         Rini would persuade Sefi to buy that wallet if Dinar didn't forbid her
Faktanya: Dinar forbad Rini, so she didn't persuade Sefi
7.         Hasan would come to your house if you had a PlayStation
Faktanya: you didn't have a PlayStation, so he didn't come
8.         He would be able to answer those questions if he studied seriously
Faktanya: he didn't study seriously, so he wasn't able to answer
9.         She would follow you if you could influence her
Faktanya: you couldn't influence her, so she didn't follow you
10.       I would pay you if you were able to win that competition
Faktanya: you weren't able to win, so I didn't pay you

Note:
The sentence of type 2 is a sentence used to express something that is not possible or contrary to reality at the present time. Sentences of this type are used to express a fantasy.
The fact that the sentence of type 2 assumption is that when the sentence is said what is assumed does not occur.

Conditional Sentence Type 3
If         : If+ subject + had + V3 + O (past perfect Tense)
Fact     : subject + would + have + V3 (Present Future Tense)

Example:
1.         If you'd slept, I would have left you
Faktanya: you didn't sleep, so I didn't leave you
2.         If she'd married, she might have had a baby
Faktanya: she didn't marry, so she didn't have a baby
3.         If you'd been able to drive, would you have driven my car?
Faktanya: you weren't able to drive, so you didn't drive my car
4.         If her proposal had been approved by her advisor, she would have been cheerful
Faktanya: her proposal wasn't approved, so she wasn't cheerful
5.         If you'd been at there, I would have given that book for you
Faktanya: you weren't at there, so I didn't give that book
6.         If your message had been read by her, it would have been replied
Faktanya: your message wasn't read by her, so it wasn't replied
7.         If she'd been single, she would have remembered and called you
Faktanya: she wasn't single, so she didn't remember and called you
8.         If those bananas had started ripening, those monkeys would have eaten it
Faktanya: those bananas weren't ripe, so those monkeys didn't eat it
9.         If I had been 17 years old, I would have had a girlfriend
Faktanya: I was still 16 years old, so I didn't have a girlfriend
10.       If she had known who you were, she might have loved you madly
Faktanya: she didn't know you, so she didn't love you

Note:
The sentence of type 3 is a sentence that presupposes something that has happened and did not happen in the past. This type of sentence is usually used to express a regret.

The fact expressed in this presuppositional sentence is that what is assumed has never happened in the past.
