NORMAL, COMPARATIVE, and SUPERLATIVE DEGREE

1.        Positive Degree

When used to express a comparison, a positive degree should be used with the word as. Positive degree has a standard form without changes.

2.        Comparative Degree

is used to compare two things. Most adjectives or adverbs of one syllable are added suffix -er, whereas two syllables or more begins with more words. Especially for two adjective syllables with the suffix -y, the suffix is omitted and then added -ier. When in the sentence, the degree of comparison is usually accompanied by the word than.

3.        Superlative Degree

Both superlative adjective and superlative adverb serve to compare three or more things. The majority of one syllable is added to the -est, whereas more than one syllable begins with the word most. As for the two syllables adjectived with the suffix -y, the suffix is omitted and then added -iest. When in the sentence, the superlative degree begins with the word.
